Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year with JPS. This year you will find fresh attitudes, fresh faces, and fresh approaches to teaching and learning. We have spent the summer diligently interviewing and hiring the very best teachers for a variety of positions throughout the district. It is my hope and expectation that as a part of our already exemplary team, they will help your child grow and learn as well as build the strong relationships with parents and families that are so crucial to the success of our students.
Taking care of business; at Sharp Park IB World School we are doing more to increase the performance of all of our students, pushing each one to be stronger academically. With the support of great teachers, and committed families, this focused effort has driven our academic scores up and earned Sharp Park IB World School the distinction of immediate release from the State of Michigan Focus School list. This is an impressive accomplishment and a testament the commitment to academic excellence from our JPS staff and Families!
Our teachers have spent the summer preparing and focusing on very specific grade level content to facilitate the reconfiguration of our upper and early elementary schools. JPS is committed to helping every student be a proficient reader by 3rd grade. We understand that reading is an essential skill that is necessary for the academic success of our students and carries over into all aspects of the student’s life. All students must first learn to read so they can read to learn for a lifetime. With that in mind we continue to grow our partnership with the C2C (Cradle to Career) network by opening additional Energizing Education rooms at McCulloch Academy and Cascades Elementary. Energizing Education is also trying something new at Frost and will be running our first 3rd grade pilot program for those students. Energizing Education has been a tremendous success throughout JPS and the real strength of the program lies in the community volunteers who mentor our students and the literacy focused family night events.
We are not standing still! JPS continues to develop innovative partnerships to bring our community the very best in educational choice and individualized instruction. Our partnership with the Felician Children’s Center has created a unique opportunity to bring Montessori education (for 5 through 8 year olds) to the greater Jackson community. With preschool and childcare options, their program creates a smooth transition for our program and students. The Montessori Method centers around children taking ownership of their learning in a safe caring environment that focuses on individual student learning.
We want you to always be in the know! At JPS we have been working hard to generate open lines of communication throughout the district. This year we will be launching the Jackson Public Schools mobile app. This will be available on both IOS and Android platforms and will provide our stakeholders a portal into all things JPS, additionally, coming this October, will be a companion app that will accompany students through Jackson high School, helping them with everything from track credits for graduation, meet with a counselor, join a club, or participate with an activity.
At Jackson Public Schools we are leading the way with innovative changes in how we approach everything from customer service to community relations. We are focused in on education and the success of every child. We are delivering on the promise of public education to graduate a highly skilled, highly-trained workforce capable of being the leaders of tomorrow! JPS Where Community Comes Together!
